Watamu is a two hour drive (100km) from Mombasa International Airport, officially known as “Jomo Kenyatta Airport”. Malindi is just a half hour drive away (20km).

The local market provide the locals and the tourists in fresh vegetables, fruits and fresh fish. Simon Mburu has been running this supermarket since 2002. It's a well stocked shop for the self catering visitor to watamu.

 

Watamu supermarket stocks all the basics plus a good cheese selection and farmers choice products. As Watamu Supermarket caters for the tourists they have quite a number of special products available, and the selection of alcoholic drinks for sale leaves nothing to wish for.

 

There is ample parking and Watamu Supermarket, and next to is is a nice coffee shop to complete your shopping experience.

 

• WATAMU HOSPITAL

 

Run by Dr. Eugene Erulu (direct number: +254 (0)722 437423) Watamu Hospital handles most patients from the Watamu hotels and other tourists. Dr. Erulu can also do house visits.

Facilities include a lab, pharmacy and X-ray machine.

Watamu Hospital is open 24 hrs a day and accepts cash only.

• MERIDIAN MEDICAL CENTRE

 

Meridian Medical Centre is a group of about 15 clinics in Kenya that focuses on outpatient services. With its head office in Nairobi its a well managed group with a professional outlook. By focussing on outpatient services this is not a hospital as such.

The Aga Khan hospitals are the best Kenya has to offer. Their Mombasa Hospital is a full scale international standards hospital that operats 24 hours a day for 7 days a week all year round. Patients may be admitted anytime throughout the day or night including public holidays.
For non-emergency cases, arrangement for admission is made during a patient’s appointment with the doctor at one of the Hospital’s Specialist Clinics. In cases of emergency immediate admission is possible.

For serious injuries this is the place to go at the coast.
